I learned about good and bad habits in teaching from this unit. Staring at the students and waiting for them to answer doesn?t work. The teacher has to have a cheerful attitude or the students won?t want to participate. Also, using grammatical jargon is not an effective way to teach students, especially if they?ve never heard the term before. It?s better to show an example. I also liked that the teacher in the second video didn?t look so confused when students said a word that didn?t make sense. Instead, he provided other possible words that the student could have meant so that the student could then remember the proper word themselves. I think this is a useful method for me, since my students struggle a lot with vocabulary. I liked that the teacher in the second video took the time to learn everyone?s names. However, I don?t think this is realistic for most teachers. With each class having about 30 students (not 10) and having multiple classes a day, five days a week, it?s extremely difficult to remember ever student?s name.
