This unit covered the basics of making a lesson plan and gave some concrete examples that helped to illustrate each point. Making a lesson plan is a good idea for inexperienced teachers, or for new classes. It should help to create some direction for the class without being inflexible. A lesson plan is useful for keeping records, planning goals for the students, and having a reference sheet to refer to during class. The lesson plan can be in whatever format works for the teacher, but it should be simple, flexible and balanced. Possible components of a lesson plan include: learner objectives, personal goals, language topic, teaching materials, anticipated problems, procedure, phase, timing, interaction, class level and number of students. It?s also a good idea to evaluate your own performance as a teacher and to keep track of problems or things that worked well in each lesson. Planning a sequence of lessons requires a lot of flexibility and revision. It is also important to set long term goals for the class, which will help provide more structure and a logical sequence.
