There was quite a bit of information to digest! Unit 13 gave detailed instruction on intonation, pronunciation, word stress indicating subtle emphasis indicating true meaning behind just words , awareness of how words are joined together in the English language, the mechanics of how words are articulated within the mouth, and the international phonemic alphabet system used for pronunciation. Helpful ideas were given as to how to aide English-learners communicate beyond just choosing the correct word by examining the dynamics of communicating the English language. The following are some of the ideas offered: Correct intonation could be taught through \"nonsense sentences\" or humming the intonation of a sentence. Stress could be taught by underlining stressed words written in sentences on the board. Pronunciation of individual sounds could be simply over-emphasized by the instructor as a model, or diagrams used as to where in the mouth the sound is formed, or students could do pair work, reading a sentence to the other to write down to evaluate the pronunciation for themselves.
