This unit covered the five conditionals as well as reported speech. It discussed the forms and uses of the conditionals, provided possible in-class activities, explained reported/indirect speech, systematically described the many shifts that occur in reported speech, and also offered in-class activities for indirect speech. Like the other grammar units, this unit was very instructive. Although I follow these rules intuitively and learned them a while back in school, I did not recall the five conditionals or the intricacies of indirect speech when I began this unit. There is much in grammar that I need to reacquaint myself with, and these units have been instrumental in this task. However, I found this material easier to process and memorize than previous grammar units. For instance, even if it is difficult to convey to a class of English learners, I did not find the shift in tense, time, pronouns, etc., that occurs in reported speech difficult to understand or recall. In contrast, I have had more difficulty with the units on tenses because of the many different uses for each tense.
