In this unit on materials, I learned a lot about classroom management, book resources, and various materials. Since I have gone into depth on lesson planning, that was more of a review for me. However, I was able to learn a lot on classroom management. I especially learned and enjoyed reading the top ten things to avoid. I was surprised to see that one of the top ten things to avoid was being over-friendly to the students before getting to know them. I am curious on this and why this is something to avoid - as I was thinking this could be a benefit to create a good rapport and relationship with your students with a lot of confidence. However, I understand that it could be too much confidence to start. I also learned that there are three types of classrooms: rigid teacher control, little to no teacher control, and controlled active. This is important to me because the students will always have memories of their classrooms, and having a bad teacher leaves a bad memory for the child, just like any other class. Overall, I enjoyed this unit and learned a lot, even though some of it was review!
