This unit showed one effective class and one ineffective class. The main difference between the two classes was the teachers attitude. However, the methods used in each lesson differed as well. For example, in the first lesson, the teacher leaned to heavily on students to produce language. In the second lesson, the teacher created more effective, simple ways of eliciting language from the students. Nevertheless, the biggest difference was the teachers overall mood: in the first, he was unpleasant and demanding, but he was encouraging and empathetic in the second. Even if he had used the same lazy teaching techniques in the second that he had in the first, the second lesson still would have been fine just based on his improved rapport with the students. I know that all teachers should strive to have a good attitude AND solid techniques. However, beginning teachers will invariably make mistakes when it comes to picking/executing appropriate activities. While teachers are building up these skills, a good attitude and empathy toward the students will ensure that no lesson is completely ineffective.
