This lesson covered some basics of student-teacher interaction in question of the teacher talk time versus student talk time, physical classroom setup, and arranging students in groups for group-work. I learned about the importance of using gestures and varying one's tone and volume of voice in order to keep students engaged in the material. Gestures can be used to convey certain ideas that can help students who may not have the vocabulary. It will be important to know students' culture and gestures in order to use them appropriately to convey ideas and engage them in learning. Discipline was also covered in this lesson, which is another topic that will depend heavily on the students' culture and the school's code of conduct. In general, though, students should be treated with respect and provided a dynamic and interactive learning environment to keep them engaged so as to prevent the need for more aggressive discipline. Group work or pair work can help students to blow off excess steam too by giving them the chance to interact with each other in a way that is productive for the teacher as well.
