This unit covers tests and evaluations. There are multiple types of tests given for different reasons. Placement tests help determine which class a student should be in. Diagnostic tests help the teacher know the strengths and weaknesses of the students. Progress tests measure the progress of the students. Practice tests help prepare students to take more formal outside exams such as the TOEFL. Each test has its place. Progress tests do not have to be done as formally as the other tests. They are used to check that the students understand and remember the material they have studied. So the teacher can use less formal methods to check progress, but it is important that progress be checked to ensure students are actually learning.
