This unit covers the intricacies of when to use different tenses in past form. They largely follow the same formula as Unit 5 explained i.e. Subject + Aux Verb is (in past form 'was') + Verb (ing). The first two are straightforward with usage. Past simple being something that is completed and continuous being something that was in progress, in the past. The past perfect and past perfect continuous are more difficult to explain to learners of english. Past perfect was explained well in this chapter with the example of \"a past of the past\". When telling a story about when you were at the train station, you use past perfect to say 'When I got to the train station (past 1), he had already bought another ticket and left without me (past 2)
