There are different forms of assessment which are used for placement in a course right through to assessment of knowledge learnt at the end of a course. Assessing students through tutorials, evaluation by the students and tests are great for working out placement, knowledge of subject materials, levels of understanding and preparation for any external examination that may be required. Regular assessment through the course is important so the student can become familiar with assessment styles and develop an understanding of requirements for testing situation. It is a valuable tool for the teacher and should be something that highlights what the student knows and doesn't know to further assist in planning and progression of a subject area.
