This unit covered four topics, modal auxiliary verbs, the passive voice, relative clauses, and phrasal verbs. Modal auxiliary verbs are modifiers that come before other verbs to add additional meaning to the sentence. These include verbs like can, could, should, etc. The passive voice is a style of speech that changes the subject of a sentence to make the subject not as important or irreverent. This is done when the action occurring is more important than who did the action. Relative clauses are dependent clauses that can provide additional information or specification on a noun that comes before. Phrasal verbs are made up of a verb combined with one or two particles and are broken into three subcategories depending on their form and use.
