From this unit, it was established that English is not a phonetic language. Having said that however, the different classifications of words discussed in this unit, set to overcome the difficulty speakers may have from this. English words are either palatal, palatal alveolar, alveolar, dental, labio dental, bilabial, glottal, plosive, fricative, nasal, lateral or affricate. Visual cues and actions simplify the understanding of the rules and principles of each class of words. The same applies to sentences and stresses. The rising and falling of one's tone plays an important role to spoken English. Different stresses imply different things and as such it is important to understand and apply stresses correctly when communicating with others.
