There are are great many resource/materials available for teaching and it is up to the teacher to discern what is going to be the most effective and useful in her/his classroom. The advantages and disadvantages of authentic and created materials, and course books are clearly laid out and in both instances the message is that a balance is what is required to both keep the students interested in the material and ensure that what they are being taught is suitable for their level and balanced in the range of skills being taught between grammar and vocabulary. This unit has many great examples of lesson materials and how they can be used and in classes. As a novice teacher I believe that the course books would be a great starting point to build on.
