A graded test is usually performed during the first class to evaluate the students' level. Levels are determined according to a number of correct answers. The Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) set a scale of 5 levels (Elementary, Pre intermediate, Intermediate, Lower advanced and Advanced). A needs analysis then follows to know which language skills students wish to develop. This allows the teacher to create a course syllabus tailored to the needs of their clients. Various tests can be given throughout the program to monitor progress. The course usually ends with a final assessment and students are encouraged to give feedbacks afterwards. Several specific business examinations are available for students such as CEIBT, SEFIC and LCCI.
