Unit 14 provides insight into the different types of course materials (authentic material, created material, and course books), when these different types of materials are most appropriate for use in the classroom, and examples of the different materials. For the most part, it seems course books can help to provide a basic structure for the course, with set lessons and syllabi, but should be supplemented with created and authentic materials based on the needs of the target students. Using course books alone could make the course predictable and boring, decreasing student interest, while using just authentic or created materials with no course text could cause the course to lose its structure, which can be stressful for both the student and the teacher.
