This unit focuses on the introduction of new language to learners. We explore different categories (vocabulary, grammar, and language functions). For each category we explore how to choose which aspect to teach (i.e. if the vocabulary is appropriate for the students level, if it is frequently used and easy to teach. We learn what the students need to know specifically, for example if it is new vocabulary they will need to know the usage, the pronunciation, its place in the grammatical system, its interaction with other words, its meaning and its spelling. Overall I have learnt more about what the students need to know when assimilating new language. This will then help me to plan an appropriate lesson, as I will know which criteria need to be covered.
