This unit covers how to manage a classroom environment. It highlights techniques for how to manage a class and how these techniques are valuable in different situations. It also provides details on how best to use different groupings and row settings for activities to get the results you want for a particular class. It also explains why students often have problems with discipline and possible ways to address them. I feel that I have learned how to more effectively manage a classroom from reading this unit. In the past I had a class that was particularly difficult to work with despite its small size, and my response (scolding them as a group) didn't work very well. I talked to one of the students in the class and her explanation was simply that the others weren't \"interested in English\". I didn't have a strong rapport with the class, so it was difficult to get them to stop talking and participate. If I face this problem again, I would likely try talking to the students one-on-one. I believe that doing this would show that I am interested in the student and build rapport, possibly eliminating the problems in the future. Also, even though my curriculum is strictly controlled by my co-teacher (in a team-teaching situation), I would try to push for the introduction of more interesting materials like videos that go along with the curriculum.
