Writing is a skill sometimes neglected in classrooms, and therefor it leads to undeveloped skills in students. It is clear that writing should be part of a lesson, and be taught from an early stage to be correct and presentable to the reader. Writing is equally as important as speaking and listening skills. In this unit I have learned that accuracy and fluency are of the same importance. I have also learned that accuracy will check the students' understanding and use of language, before they can try use it in a fluency activity. So when applying this in an ESA lesson we as teachers need to understand how and when to apply the activities. So, concerning productive skills, when we are teaching a 'typical ESA' lesson we need to focus the study stage for accuracy and fluency. Secondly,it is important for teachers not to correct students during drilling exercises, as this gives the students a safe environment for errors. Thirdly, When we teach writing pronunciation drilling is not needed. Finally, spelling is also important seeing as I have now learned that English is NOT a phonetic language, some spelling patterns in English can be confusing to learners, for example some spelling patterns change as the tense changes in a sentence. So it's important for teachers to encourage students to conduct further reading practice to improve their spelling.
