In this unit I learned about the present tense. There are four main present tenses. First, present simple which is used for the simple time (I work, You work, etc). I learned the different forms of the present simple as well (affirmative, negative, and question). Second, I learned present continuous which is made up with the present simple tense of an auxiliary verb to be and the present participle verb +ing of main verb; an example would be I am leaving, I am not leaving, Am I leaving? We use present participle to talk about an action that is in progress at time of speaking, temporary action, emphasize frequent actions, and background events in a present story. Third, I learned about present perfect which relates to the past to the present and commonly used by a native English speaker; examples would be I have written, I haven't written, and have I written? We use present perfect when we talk about finished actions, thinking about completed past actions, something began in past and is still true at the time of speaking, and describe past actions with present results. Finally, I learned present perfect continuous which relates past actives to the present, and examples would be 'I have been dancing, I haven't been dancing, and Have I been dancing?'. This unit was very important because ESL teachers need to know present tenses when teaching non speakers.
