This unit is about different types of tests carried out in the internally and externally. In the classroom setting, there are placement test, diagnostic test, progress test and practice tests which can be carried out for different purpose at different time. For example, placement test must be carried out before the lesson starts in order to put students in a class in accord to one's language proficiency, while diagnostic test should be carried out before going in depth into the lesson so as to evaluate one's understanding towards the topic beforehand. Also, the unit introduces some international examinations for testing one's English proficiency, such as IELTS, TOEFL and other Cambridge assessment. After studying this unit, I have learnt how different testing materials should be prepared by teachers. For example, questions for placement test should be set challenging gradually in order to test candidate's level of proficiency and place one's into an appropriate level. Also, the introduction of different external exams help teachers to have deeper understanding what's required in different examinations, and after evaluating students, teachers can suggest an appropriate examinations for students to achieve better. For instance, for young learners, rather than suggesting them to have IELTS, Cambridge assessments in lower level (e.g KEY) is more appropriate.
