Present simple is the most basic form of a sentence, consisting of subject (+ verb 'do' + not) + base form (+e/es). It is used for habits, routines, facts, commentaries, directions, instructions, present stories, headlines, and historical sequences. Present Continuous tense is used to talk about actions in progress, temporary actions not necessarily in progress at the time of speaking, frequent actions, background events in a present story, developing situations, and to refer to a regular action around a point in time. It is formed using subject + verb 'be' (+ not) + verb + 'ing' (present participle). Present perfect tense relates the past to the present. It is used for completed actions in an unfinished time period, finished actions at an indefinite time, something that began in the past and is still true but are unsure if it will continue, and to describe past actions with present results. It is formed using subject + verb 'have' (+not) + verb + 'ed' (part participle). Finally, present perfect continuous is also used to relate past activities to the present, but implies that the activity will likely continue in the future or that the activity was in progress for a long length of time. It is formed using subject + verb 'have' (+not) + been + verb + ing (present participle).
