In this unit the four forms for past tense are described and made clear. Past simple is used for completed past actions that occurred at a definite point in time. Past continuous is applied for situations in progress at a certain time in the past. Past perfect relates past events that occurred Before another past event, and for this is often called \"the past in the past.\" Past perfect continuous is used to for situations when something began in the past and had been going on until the moment that is being discussed.
