This unit covered in detail all the areas required to understand how Pronunciation and Phonology. This included the use of Stress and Intonation and a very detailed account of the use of the International Phonetic Alphabet. This was complimented by two detailed lessons taught by an experienced teacher who firstly taught a theory lesson concerning the International Phonetic Alphabet and the we saw this theory put into practice as we observed a class being taught to use and understand the skills required. I found this an extremely interesting unit. It was very detailed and went into the exact detail of how and why words are stressed and the different meanings created if the stress and intonation changes. A subtle change of communication and desire is created. This was also true of the information on the International Phonetic Alphabet. This was a very helpful and interesting set of lessons to show practically how this alphabet operates and the sounds associated with each symbol. Overall this unit was extremely informative and had a high level of information. I learned a great deal about the use of the alphabet with some excellent ideas on how I can deliver this information to prospective students in the future.
