This was a huge unit, and it was difficult for me to absorb all of the information and be able to recall it for the test. The previous two units seemed to have too little content, and this unit seemed to have too much content. It could have easily been split up into two units. However, I did find it an extremely interesting unit. I had never received teaching on the phonetic table or seen it used to teach english. I was taught english as a child using combinations of vowels to make certain sounds. I am still not sure which technique I prefer to teach phonics, pronunciation, and reading, but I appreciated learning about this certain technique. I do not know if it is more confusing or if it is helpful to have the students learn separate symbols for pronunciation, when those symbols are not used to spell the word in real life. However, I do see the need for recognition of sounds and teaching about those sounds, and I appreciate the different techniques that were outlined for the teaching of pronunciation.
