This unit deals with what tests are appropriate to: place students in an english learning course at their level, monitor their progress during the course, and to help them prepare for external examinations such as TOEIC and TOEFL. Many institutions employ placement tests to evaluate the students level and to place them in the appropriate course. Progress tests occur through out the course to gage the students progress. In other words what do they remember and what needs more review. The unit also deals with preparing the student for whatever external examination they may be looking to take to gain entrance into English speaking universities for example.
