This unit introduced me to teaching methods, in particular the ESA method. It gave suggestions for activities in the Engage, Study and Activate phases. Some of the activities were more appropriate for beginning students, while other were appropriate only for advanced students. One thing that I thought was missing was an idea about how much time to devote to each phase. Also, I would recommend presenting short videos for some of these activities.This unit goes over Video Planning. It shows the same lesson taught twice by same teacher to highlight the differences between two very contrasting teaching styles. It shows why one teaching approach resulted in a successful class and why the other one was less successful.
Paying attention to the teaching differences between the two videos can help new teachers understand what to do and what not to do to ensure a successful class and lesson.
