This unit was all about pronunciation. There was a focus on phonology, articulation, intonation and stress. This unit discussed how to analyze and teach pronunciation as a tefl teacher. This unit introduced the different organs used to make sounds; the different ways to articulate sounds and the names of each; and the phonemic alphabet which focuses on how a word sounds, not how it is written. It also discussed how intonation and stress can influence the fluency of a TESL student. Intonation influences the emotion of a sentence or the meaning of a sentence and stress influences the speakers ability to sound native and natural. At the end of each part, this unit provided teaching ideas and techniques. I found it most helpful to see pronunciation and phonemes broken down into diagrams and charts. It helped me better understand how to teach sounds to students.
