Intonation and pronunciation are important parts of language that are often under-emphasized in ESL classes but which are very important for students to be aware of. Intonation affects the entire meaning of a sentence, and proper pronunciation ensures that students will be understood and be more comfortable speaking the language. This was the most difficult unit so far. A lot of the material on pronunciation was new to me. I had not really thought about stressing syllables in english, although I now understand it in greater detail. I also learned the International Phonetic Alphabet, which will be useful. Pronunciation is definitely a difficult subject to teach. It is "easy"" to read aloud a word or sentence for the students to understand in the most correct manner. However
