This is a very pertinent unit. In Colombia 3/4 of the students didn't have books, so we relied on creating our own materials. We used authentic materials every once in a while because 90% of our students were at A1 level. We also taught teacher workshops on material prep and then how to use them. Pearson and Harcourt are big publishers down there, but they're expensive so most parents never bought the books. Basically all of the lessons we created were with the use of little to no materials, but it was very creative, kinesthetic, and innovative! Every teacher, in my opinion, should learn how to teach like this, it actually challenges and stretches you as an educator.
