This unit covered teachers and learners, and what qualities make for good teachers and good learners. Different roles that a teacher may fill in a classroom were discussed. Also included were different reasons why a student might decide to take a language course, and the differences between young and adult students, in terms of how they are to teach, their levels of motivation, etc. A teacher should take into account the culture of the students he/she is teaching, their level of knowledge of the language, and why they are taking the language, when making lesson plans. I learned a lot from reading about the different roles a teacher needs to fill at different times. I have also realized more fully from this unit how different an experience it would be to teach different age groups and different levels of understanding (beginning vs. advanced, etc.)
