and students were happy to participate even when singled out (by name). Students were keen to participate throughout the lesson but especially when time limits were given to written activities where they had to name as many things as possible--they enjoyed the 'race'. The engagement of the students and work in pairs dramatically increased the student participation and use of language in Video 2 compared to the comparatively teacher-dominated lesson in Video 1 where students were silent for long periods of time and did not enjoy the lesson. Overall Lesson 2 was a much more efficient and effective lesson than Lesson 1
