It can be very easy to become too dependent on course books when teaching English. Typically, lesson plans are all laid out and simple to follow. However, what I have found is that when the teacher simply depends on a course book when teaching a lesson, the students get bored and are less likely to participate. This is especially true when working with children and teenagers. It is fair to ask; why would the students work hard through a lesson that the teacher did not work hard to plan? This unit gave some good ideas for breaking up a course book lesson with teacher created activities.
