This unit contrasts an ineffective English language lesson with an effective one. The differences were caused by teacher attitude and voice, level of class engagement, use of gestures and materials, and teaching methods. In the first class, the teacher was unsmiling and spoke rapidly, he did not engage the class by asking names, asking questions to individuals or putting students together in study groups. He didn't use gestures or show pictures or drawings, and his method of teaching did not allow for demonstration and pronunciation of vocabulary. He didn't explain study and activation assignments. The opposite was true in the second lesson, and it was clearly more successful.
