This particular unit focused on dividing up the English language into eight definable parts of speech. Each part was further examined by defining its function and giving copious examples of how it's used in daily communication. This theoretical foundation is essential for anyone who wishes to teach the English language in any systematic manner. I really enjoyed this lesson, to be honest. I found the concept of receptive vs. productive skills to be fascinating. I liked how the receptive skills can be further compartmentalized into predictive skills, scanning for information, deducing from context, etc... I am looking forward to how productive skills are taught in the next lesson or so. I thought this unit worked very well in complementing unit 11. My only complaint is, once again, the last few questions dealing with the ESA and its phases. I think this is an effective system but the way the questions are set up does not provide for any flexibility.
