I have learned that there are a lot a student actually needs to know about new vocabulary words when learning the English languge. I learned that they should learn the meaning, the useage of the word and when it is appropriate to use it, the word grammar which is where it belongs in a sentence, the intereaction -how it interacts and affects other words in the sentences, the spelling of the word and how to pronunciate it correctly. >I also learned that language functions should include areas such as inviting, refusing, agreeing, disagreeing and suggesting. This should also include the appropriateness of the language in terms of the kind of language the use--formal, informal, tentative or technical.
