The unit discusses reasons for planning lessons. It is noted that although planning is important, the teacher should guard against attempting to script the entire lesson. A lesson plan should not restrict natural flow, detract from keeping rapport and a dynamic interaction between teacher and students. The teacher should remain flexible and remain aware of students handling of the task, instead of attempting to keep rigidly to the plan. A plan should be kept simple and within easy access and reference Before, during and after the lesson. Each teacher will keep notes and write plans according to her own manner and requirements. Teachers should also plan a sequence of lessons so as to ensure continuity between lessons and good coverage of material and variety of lesson activities. This will keep lessons varied, and therefore interesting for students. Planning of a series of lessons will also prevent the teacher focussing and developing certain language skills, while neglecting other skills.
