The unit effectively outlines four present tense examples along with their usage and suggestions for the activation stages of the ESA methodology, as developed by Jeremy Harmer. These are the present simple, an example being 'I swim'; the present continuous, 'I am swimming'; the present perfect tense, 'I have been for a swim'; as well as the present perfect continuous, 'I have been taking swimming lessons for years'.The unit provides examples of grammar rearrangement and usage of auxiliary verbs for negative statements and questions and goes on to give examples of verbs that adopt irregular past participles, verbs that do not conform to the regular '..ed' ending for their past tense usage. For example, 'Take' and 'Taken' (past participle). The unit also gives examples of common mistakes students tend to come up with, and provides illustrations of where the grammar is being misapplied in a sentence and how teachers might correct the language errors.
