This unit covers the different methods, theories and techniques on teaching language.
In this unit, I have learnt the different methods developed for teaching language and the key factors that a good teaching method should accomplish. These factors are; motivate the learner, expose learner to the language, and give the learner and opportunity to practise or use the language. A method that has all these stages covered is the Engage, Study and Activate method.
I have also learned how all these stages operate, and three diffent types of ways to arrange the stages in a given class which are : straight arrow ESA, Boomerang ESA, and Patchwork ESA.
Finally, I learned no matter what ESA arrangement one uses in a lesson, it should always conclude with the Activate stage.
