Eye contact can be used to show students that they are all involved in the lesson and to hold the attention of students who are not being addressed. It should be avoided during an activity where the focus is on fluency. Gesture is used to convey the meaning of language and it should only be used if they are obvious in meaning. As a teacher, my voice must have the correct clarity, range and variey when giving instructions or explanations. Students can be grouped into Whole-class grouping, Pairwork, Groupwork or on their own. The grouping depends on the class size and Type of activity. It is a good idea to create as much variety as possible. When giving instructions, use simple language, be consistent, use visual clues and check the instruction with the students. Establish rapport with students by having an ice breaking activity at the beginning of a course and by using Plenty of pair or group work activities. When responding to problem behaviour, never lose temper. Keep calm and keep to the school's disciplinary code.
