In unit 2 we looked at the different parts of speech: nouns (singular and plural, countable and uncountable), adjectives and their placement in a sentence, the comparative and superlative forms of adjectives and how they are formed, the indefinite and definite articles (a, an, the), transitive and intransitive verbs and their definition, the different verb forms (base form, past simple, past participle and present participle) and auxiliary verbs. We looked at the main types of adverbs, their form and placement, gerunds, the different pronouns (personal, possessive, reflexive and relative) as well as prepositions and conjuntions. I am quite familiar with the different parts of speech (being a language teacher for Icelandic which is a heavily inflected language with a complicated grammar) and so not much was new to me. I found certain tips helpful, for example the order of several adjectives in a sentence (size-age-colour-material-noun) and the order for several adverbs: place-manner-time.
