Unit 1 outlined the qualities which contribute to making a good teacher. Many of these qualities revolve around personal empathy and showing respect for individual learners. In addition the Unit outlined the various roles a teacher has in the class context and the importance of the various roles according to the learner cohort.

The formal categories of language learners was also provided in the context of common levels used as descriptors and also an outline of the Common european Framework was provided .
