Regardless of the level of the class being taught, there are 4 things students need when learning g a new language: exposure, meaning, construction and production of the language. Students must be introduced to a new language in a balanced and manageable way. Lessons will often either introduce or focus on a single area rather than several areas. We can apply different ESA methods to introduce new language, new vocabulary is suited to the straight arrow Type lesson whereas function based lessons are better suited to patchwork or boomerang types. Teaching vocabulary is important especially in the beginning when motivation is high. The introduction of grammatical structures depends on the level of the student and the syllabus being taught. The techniques used for this is to first engage the student, study various aspects and activate what has been learned. As well as the teaching of vocabulary and grammar, the teaching of language function is also necessary and is effectively taught using the patchwork or boomerang style of teaching.
