Understanding basic sentence structure is an important component to teaching English, e.g. understanding the subject (the doer of the action), verb (the action) and object (whom the action was applied) relationships. In order to create a proper and logical flow when speaking and writing, recognizing other parts of speech is important, too. This is where multiple parts of speech are utilized, such as: Nouns, adjectives, articles, verbs, adverbs, gerunds, pronouns, prepositions and conjunctions. The differing parts of speech can be broken into multiple subcategories to future define the words being used. For example, a noun is referenced as people, places and things, including qualities, states and animals. These are formalized into Main Types, such as: Common, Proper, Compound, Abstract and Collective; Plurals; Countable; and Uncountable nouns. It can be overwhelming to understand all the different endings added to different words represented throughout the different parts of speech, too. For example, determining whether an adjective should be changed into its comparative or superlative form can be confusing. Also, defining a verb as either transitive or intransitive can be lead to confusion. It?s best to remember an intransitive verb can?t be followed by an object. Overall, the direct grammar part of teaching is nerve-racking. But, with persistence and patience improvement will occur. ", The content of this unit was very well put together in the aspect that it flowed very easily from one part of speech to the next. I was able to follow it quite easily. It is amazing to me
