This unit provided me with a good background on the history of Theories and Techniques that I was unfamiliar with. I gained a greater appreciation for Jeremy Harmer's ESA method and insights on how to leverage the flexibility to become an effective ESL teacher. I also gained an appreciation for how Harmer borrowed some of the lessons learned from the older models. Harder's ESA method is a good mixture of the tried as tested older theories which I believe helps a teacher reach an even broader population of L2 learners. Studying the correction techniques also helped me understand the importance between mistakes and corrections; as well knowing the appropriate time and manner of correction.
