I am starting to see a bit more than I ever did before why they say English is one of the most difficult languages to learn if not the most difficult. I have not thought as in depth about the number of past tenses in English before. I can manage the different French past tenses as long as the conditional and subjunctive are not as much of an issue.I have learnt about common errors in the past tense especially the past continuous- that omission of ‘to be’ and ‘ing’ confuses this tense with the past simple, as there’s no time specification. And the different between the Past Perfect continuous and the Past perfect is using or adding auxiliary verbs; ‘had been’
