Alina lives in Bucharest in Romania and has been teaching English there for several years. This unit focused on methods of teaching the receptive skills of reading and listening. It explained the purpose of receptive skills and the way we use them, how these skills are cultivated in language learning, and provided an example lesson for teaching receptive skills. I found the latter part particularly useful and will utilize it in the future.This unit gave advice on how to introduce new vocabulary and grammatical structures to English language learners. It was nice that the content was related back to the unit on theories and techniques. The examples of straight arrow, boomerang and patchwork lesson plans to introduce certain types of vocabulary and language structures were very helpful.
