The difference between the first and second lesson was more stark than day and night. The first lesson was absolutely boring. The teacher barely understood the subject matter and was not capable of answering questions from his more advanced students. Furthermore, he talked at the students instead of relating to them and creating a rapport. Contrariwise, the teacher in the second lesson immediately created a rapport by asking the students their names and making himself easy to relate to by smiling and trying to make his class fun. This teacher, furthermore, utilized a patchwork lesson structure with a variety of study activities that ended in a well planned game designed to get students to understand the lesson. The effectiveness of the teacher, essentially, was the defining factor in these classes.
