Language skills are classified into receptive (reading and listening) and productive (speaking and writing). Receptive skills can be used for a purpose, entertainment, or a mix of the two. Receptive skills are used in different forms which are prediction, scanning, skimming, detailed, or deducing. Those forms give is different types of information which the teacher should help the student develop. In order to teach those skills, the teacher should consider the material used. Is the language or structure difficult? What is the topic? Is it interesting? What tasks go with the material? To tackle difficulties, the teacher should prepare for obstacles students may have. Some ways are varying the tasks, teaching essential words, learn the students interests, and help students be comfortable with the unknown.
