This unit identified and detailed some of the problems a teacher might encounter, both during the first TEFL lesson and through the ongoing course. Some great ways were identified to break the ice and establish a rapport in the classroom that will be beneficial throughout the rest of the class. I was really surprised that teachers are advised to not even open the coursebook during the first lesson. I feel like my own teachers would just jump into lessons right away, tossing books at us and telling us what to read. Of course, now that I think back on that it failed to motivate me at all, so using a different technique in TEFL classes seems like a good idea.
