This lesson explores the use of course materials, created and authentic, and goes over their respective strengths and weaknesses. Created materials are those which are designed specifically for the English language learner. They can provide an excellent, stable rubric, however they may at times be irrelevant, out of date, or uninteresting. Authentic materials are those designed for everyday consumption of the native speaker, and can really interest and engage students and boost their confidence when understood. However, great care must be taken into what materials are appropriate and the teacher must strike ab balance between the two different types of materials.
